Aston Villahave been one of the best teams in the Championship over the last few weeks.
After having struggled for form early on in the campaign, manager Steve Bruce has been able to get the players functioning as expected. The club has been able to make significant inroads into the top half of the table. Even though they are now closer towards the championship top 10 than ever before, it may not result in promotion back to the Premier league. The club are several points behind Sheffield Wednesday, who occupy the final play-off spot. As a result, manager Steve Bruce is targeting promotion for the club next season.
He is confident that Villa will be able to return back to the Premier league if they continue on the same vein of form. Aston Villa have been able to secure seven wins in the last eight matches. As a result, they have been able to close down the gap on the top six down to just 11 points. Earlier in the campaign, Villa were dealing with the significant threat of relegation.
This led to the club bringing in Steve Bruce as the replacement for Roberto di Matteo. Bruce has admitted that he club like Aston Villa should be playing in the top division at all times.
"I am always confident that I can put a team together that can get out of this division. I have done it before and it would be terrific to do it here. It's never going to be easy because of who we are. We are the big scalp in this division. Everyone wants to turn us over. All the teams that come to Villa Park want to perform on the big stage and in the big arena. So all the bits and pieces make it difficult,” said Bruce.
