GUZAN WILL STAY

Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan has decided to sign a new contract with his current club rather than join the championship club Hull city. It is thought that Hull city manager Steve Bruce was extremely interested in bringing the American International to the KC stadium.

He was out of contract at the end of last season, which made him an ideal place for the Championship club, who are struggling with finances of late after having dropped out from the Premier league. The 27-year-old, though, has now announced that he has re-signed with the club after agreeing a three-year deal.

Brad Guzan has not been the first choice under the previous Aston Villa manager's after he has played second fiddle to both Brad Friedel and Shay Given. He has thought that he would not get any opportunities under the new manager Paul Lambert as well due to the presence of the Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given, who is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier league. Even though he started most of the games on the bench last season, new Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has said that he is competing for a place alongside Shay Given.

"I've watched Brad in games when he was in the team last year and he was excellent. I know he's always had that stigma of being the number two behind some really good goalkeepers here. But when you come back at the start of the season nobody knows what's going to happen and it depends on whoever does well. Brad played very well the time he was in and maybe he found himself a bit unlucky to be back out," said the Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert after announcing the deal to bring back Brad Guzan to the Villa Park.
