Despite the ongoing struggles for Villa in the Premier league, the manager Paul Lambert has insisted that the owner Randy Lerner remains committed to the Aston Villa project.
There have been suggestions that the owner Randy Lerner might be willing to sell the club after not seeing any returns on his £ 250 million investment in the club so far. The club are also flirting with relegation this season, which could be devastating if they dropped down the division. Lambert has been coming under intense pressure in the last few weeks due to a poor run of results, which has left the team one place above the relegation zone.
This coupled with the back-to-back defeats suffered in the League cup and the FA Cup have meant that any chance of glory for Villa this season has been eroded. Villa will be taking on fellow strugglers Newcastle United at Villa Park on Tuesday night knowing that three points is vital for their survival. Newcastle will come into the match on the back of five new signings in the last few weeks. Pardew has made a real effort in order to strengthen the squad following the loss of players like Demba Ba. Lerner has been the owner of Villa for more than six years now.
"I don't know whether [it's because of] the outlay since Randy's been here, putting all that money into the club. But you can't spend something if it's not there. I think he has got money, or his own wealth, entirely his own wealth. I think what's happened is the club spent millions a couple of years back. It can't do that, there's absolutely no way it can do that. Finance dictates a lot of things. Finance will always dictate a lot of things," said Lambert ahead of the Newcastle match.
