Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood says that he is feeling sick after watching his team suffer a 4-0 humiliation against Arsenal in the FA Cup final.
Villa were hoping to finally into the run of several decades without a FA Cup title by beating the gunners. They have not managed to win this title since the success in the 1956-57 campaign. The closest they have been since then was being runners up at the turn of the century and now against Arsenal. Despite being in a relegation battle for much of the campaign, Villa were hoping to create a major upset at the new Wembley.
Both teams were coming into the match on the back of a mediocre run of form ever since qualifying for the final. This has largely been put down to the concentration on this important match more than anything else. However, it was Arsenal who managed to switch on at the right moment. Villa failed to turn up throughout the entire 90 minutes with striker Christian Benteke largely being anonymous. The Belgian has been linked with a move away in the summer, but he may fail to find suitors with this kind of performance in a big match. The threat from the big striker was largely negated by some impressive defending.
“I feel sick and so do the boys in there, but you can only know how winning feels when you watch another team walk around the pitch with the cup.I feel quite bad at the moment. The job was to come in here and stay in the division but that’s no consolation. They deserved to win, no arguments about that. They’ve got outstanding, world class footballers and today we couldn’t nullify their threat or impose ourselves on them either,” said the Aston Villa boss.
