Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings has said that he has been amazed by the qualities of new signing Wesley Moraes. The Brazilian striker joined the Villains from Club Brugge at the beginning of the month and he has already made an impression with the west Midlands outfit during their ongoing pre-season campaign.
Moraes recently starred in the 5-1 friendly triumph over Walsall, where he scored a brace and speaking after that game, Mings acknowledged that the striker can be a handful with his height and physique, he told Sky Sports News: “He's a handful! He's a very strong guy, a very big guy, technically he's very good. I think he offers us something different and I think he'll add a lot to the team. He's a striker, a number 9, something which you don't see too much of these days. I may have given him a few 'Welcome to Aston Villa' tackles - but he gives as good as he gets!”
Despite the positive comments, much cannot be taken from Moraes’ performance against Walsall
, considering the opposition are currently playing in the fourth tier of English football. As such, a better understanding of the striker’s credentials could be understood when the Premier League season begins where he should have the task of leading the attack.
The Villains don’t have much Premier League experience when it comes to the frontline next season but manager Dean Smith will still be hoping that the players within the squad are capable of standing up to the difficult challenge on the cards. Villa are currently approaching the final stages of their pre-season and they have friendlies against Charlton Athletic and RB Leipzig before facing Tottenham Hotspur on the road for the league opener. Spurs have historically dominated the proceedings against them and Villa have managed just one win over the north London side in the past decade.
